Hi Jim, This does not work any more under el captain mac Mail. I have not been able to set it up as other, IMAP or Exchange.
Microsoft Exchange Server Address for Mac Users Exchange Server Discuss evaluation, troubleshooting, tools, documentation, and more on the Exchange 2013 RTM release version.
If you use 'Other eMail' it can not verify password. I deleted all old keychain passwords for 'hotmail' and 'live', just in case. All started one day when Hotmail started asking me to enter a password for Hotmail account (that is checked daily and was always working). Entered the password and it can't verify it to be correct. Removed VPN and firewall but no luck. Don't want to lose all my old emails as they are in multiple work folders with other emails from other servers. Can not risk deleting and re-adding this account.
I have years of important emails. I realise I could use time machine but that is tedious and slow. Anyone got Hotmail working under the latest Max OS X?
Microsoft Exchange is a piece of software installed on a server, usually in a workplace, or you could buy it for your home PC but you'd need an actual server (extra PC) to run it through a WAN or Intranet, so it's not really feasible. It is very misleading as a name to be honest as it makes people think it's a piece of software Miscrosoft use to run emails such as Hotmail or the new Outlook, but that is simply not the case. So if you're linking to a work email that uses a Microsoft Exchange server then your workplace will be able to give you the exchange server details, such as is the case with one of my own workbased email addresses. However from the posts I can see most people are referring to personal private Hotmail accounts (one of my other email accounts) which do not run through Microsoft Exchange Server software and are simple POP email accounts so to set them up with OS X or iOS you add the account as a POP account.
I.e In your Mail client, just click on add account, type in the name and password and it will automatically add Hotmail. You do NOT need to add any exchange server details. And you CANNOT see things like folders that you've set up in Hotmail on your Mail client, even if it is Microsoft Outlook, because POP doesn't allow this. You can however set up local folders and filters locally in your Mail client. My suggestion if you want to see folders, that are also shown in your mail when you log in on the net, in your mail client at the moment is to get a gmail account which uses IMAP not just POP.
Hotmail Active Sync (Exchange) is only supported on IOS devices, you will have to use POP • Select Mail Preferences. From the Mac OS X Mail menu. • Go to the Accounts category. • Click the + ('Create an account.' • Enter your name under Full Name. • Type your Windows Live Hotmail address (something like ' ') under Email Address. When was the most recent chrome update for mac.
